The Headquarters at Seaport District is an up-and-coming San Diego spot, just outside of downtown. It’s an enticing open-air entertainment complex, located by the San Diego Harbor, and it just opened its doors in 2013. Our team at Expedia Viewfinder was interested in learning more about what attracts visitors to this area, so we partnered up with those who know this spot best, The Headquarters at Seaport District team. We highlighted five things visitors will want to know about the location before their next visit:

History

Before The Headquarters became a prime shopping and dining destination, it served as San Diego Police Headquarters. The San Diego police force was formed in 1889 and its headquarters were later built in 1939. Designed with Spanish and Mediterranean influences, the complex once included an indoor shooting range, jail, courtrooms, and even an emergency hospital. Although the center has since evolved into shops and restaurants, the structure remains on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sweets

Come to The Headquarters with a sweet tooth. There are several shops and restaurants here that are certain to satiate even the strongest sugar cravings. Dallmann Fine Chocolates entices with its Austrian treats, Mozartkugeln, which are a mouthwatering blend of hazelnut nougat and pistachio marzipan. Gelato Paradiso is another sweet shop that serves up authentic Italian gelato with indulgent ingredients like almonds, coffee, spices, and seasonal fruits. For those who want their cake and to eat it too, The Cheesecake Factory serves up chocolate, strawberry, mango key lime flavors and more.
